Is it my belt tensioner? 2001 monte carlo ss 3.8
Ok so I recently started getting a squealing noise coming from under the hood a little while after the car is heated up. I know what a squealing belt sounds like and I am pretty certain thats not what it is. Also because it only really squeals when I let off the gas. When I am cruising down the road or accelerating it makes no noise. This leads me to believe its the tensioner or a bearing in one of the accessories. The car just when hit 165000 so I am not sure it could be anything. Let me know what you think.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Its very possible that its a pully bearing. But to start with the simple stuff, I would put some belt dressing on your belt, and see if the problem goes away, maybe it is just a squealing belt!

Belt dressing is evil
try taking the belt off first and starting the engine briefly if the noise is gone its one of the belt driven parts. to determine which one try spinning the pulleys one by one to listen for any noise. see if this helps but if you put belt dressing on it actually damages the belt and can make the noise worse, i know that sounds wrong but trust a pro on that one.

true that, a new belt cost like 26 bucks. i would try that b4 the dressing. all you need is a long breaker bar and 10 mins. follow the directions that are in your face while looping.
