i bought a 05 monte carlo lt about a month ago and sometimes while im in park the engine will just shut off. happened two times already. anyone know what could be going wrong?

 

Does it slowly die? Like it idles, then the RPMs drop to about 4-500 then it kills?

Try to give it gas the next time it does that and if it keeps the car alive check out your idle air control valve (IAC) on your throttle body.

 

i think so i never checked. but on average where should my car be idling? its under the 1 when idling.

 

Should idle around 800. I know on cold days my idle can jump up to 1100 because of the denser air but lowers when the car gets warmer.

 

if it is IAC is it easy to fix?

 

You'll need a T-20 Security Torx bit and a new IAC valve and should take about 5 minutes to swap out.
