Monte Carlo Carb Settings Help
Hey, I am new to the forum, and I like it very much.
I am 16, and just bought my 1st car to fix up, till I get my G2 in March. Its a 1977 Monte Carlo. I just bought a carb kit, and installed it, mounted on car etc. Runs MUCH better, only problem I have is, what are the settings for the 2 mixture screws on the front of the carb. How many turns out are they supposed to be ?
Thanks.

Well Jefferson this could get a bit touchy, but if you tore that carb apart and got it back together and it works then you have already won the battle. To adjust the mixture screws, turn them both all the way in until they stop turning. DON'T FORCE THEM TO FAR. Just turn gently until they want to stop. Now back them both out about 2 full turns each. This is a starting point for adjusting. Start the car and warm it up for about 10 - 15 minutes. Check the choke on the carb to insure it opened all the way. Tap the gas pedal once or twice to get the engine down to idle in case it was on fast idle.
Now you can start adjusting the mixture screws ONE at a time. Slowly turn ONE screw in or out until the engine speed changes. (If you have a hand held tach this helps.) Otherwise just listen very carefully. Continue turning the screw until you get the HIGHEST speed possible. Now do the same thing with the other screw. After getting both screws adjusted, you may have to LOWER the engine idle speed by adjusting the main idle screw. Drive it and see if it runs OK or has a flat spot (bogs, stumbles, etc). If it does not feel right, you may have to do the adjusting again. This procedure really comes with lots of experience so it may take a few tries or even some professional help to get it right. Good luck.
