MC Popping Noise

My 2004 MC SS Supercharged has developed a "popping" noise. The axel's have been replaced.

The popping noise happens when putting the car in reverse on cold start. It also happens when slamming the gas at a red light .. We jacked it up, spun the tires .. The popping noise is happening no matter which tire is spinning. Seems to be a lot of slack. Transmission going out?

Maybe it's a bad U-Joint ?
