I am getting more and more frequent Low Oil Pressure warnings. And it keeps happening sooner and sooner and at lower and lower speeds as the days go on.

So everyday I drive 30 minutes home from work. About 20 min or so, my Coolant Temperature will start to inch up slightly. I am in Arizona and at this time of day it is around 105-110 deg. So that is nothing that abnormal hopefully. Not overheating or anything but it defintely goes up. Then the Engine will start to surge on acceleration. I will also get the Low Oil pressure warning around this time also. The surging has nothing to do with my A.C., I have turned it off and tested. Could this be a blown Head Gasket?

First off, if you suspect the light is legitimate, stop driving it. Not sure what the set point is on that engine, but GM stuff is generally crazy low - like 5 psi. To the point where if it is legitimately below tha and you're still driving, its tearing stuff up.

With that said, those sensors are pretty common to have fail. First thing I'd do is buy or rent a mechanical pressure gauge to confirm actual pressure. If pressure is in spec, then that issue is likely as easy as just buying a new sensor.


In terms of coolant temp, if you think it looks abnormal, hook up a scan tool and see what the sensor is actually reading. The stock gauge is fine for alerting you to issues, but it doesn't provide exact enough data to diagnose anything or say for certain its OK or not. Only hard data will tell you for sure.
