6th Gen ('00-'05): Low beams not working with high beams
I’ve got a 01 ss recently upgraded to led headlights and noticed that my low beams cut out when I switch to high , is this normal? Haven’t really paid it much attention until switching over to the led bulbs. Sadly my high beams are week by their self or I wouldn’t worry about it … I can see best when I hold the switch to where both are on but after I pull the switch all the way back to just high beams it’s depressing lol . How do I fix this also worth noting I also changed out the the headlight assembly’s as well could it be a wiring issue in the new headlight assembly?
Thats how they work. Lows turn off when you turn on brights. @The_Maniac would be the one to contact for advice on what you want to do if you dont want to hold the lever.

Since the Monte has separate bulbs for low and high beams, this is typical for many GM (and possibly other cars) to only operate one bulb type at a time. I know for certain year Silverados, there is a mod for "all lights on" when activating the high beams (it is all the high and low bulbs and the fog lights). I suppose you could do a mod similar with the Monte (it would take figuring out the areas to jumper with diodes).
When switching to LED bulbs for your high/low beams, I don't feel it is necessary. I switched the high and low beam bulbs to the units I listed below. To help avoid blinding on coming traffic, I even tilted the headlights to point down just a bit. You really cannot tell a difference from my high and low beams. They are crazy bright and the light broadcasts out for what seems like forever! Only reason I changed my high beam bulbs, the DRL using the high beam at low power, I wanted a clean "all LED" look. Downside, the car reports "high beam out" because of how the LED bulbs are detected (if I knew a high beam bulb that did NOT generate a "high beam out" when I start the car, I would consider switching out, but I have not looked into it).
