Default To Lock-up or to not Lock-up??

84 MC SS, 310ci, th350 w/ 3.42 gears. Not running a computer but i wanna keep the mileage somewhat decent. I plan on getting a 200-4r and i was wondering if i need to lockup? also excuse my ignorance, but are lockup kits and actual lockup converters 2 different things? thanks in advance

I would go with a lockup. It will improve your fuel mileage and increase the life of your transmission and torque converter. And yes, the two should be two different things IIRC. You'll need to actual converter and you'll need some sort of kit (or improvised wiring) to make the converter lock up under cruise conditions.

i run a 700 non lockup. i dont really know how much the mileage would really improve with a lockup convertor. if you go lock up. youll need a lockup convertor and a kit. my buddy runs the lock up on his 700 on a toggle switch.

so i would need a torque converter that locks up and a lockup wiring kit? seems fair enough

@themonteman, what kind of mileage are you getting? what kind of driving to you do?
