sorry for the new post on this i asked about a leak on a 99 3.1 mc and not to many posted back if it was a intake gasket would there be antifreeze in the oil it's comming from the passanger side under the alt as i can see no it's not the water pump thank you much for any help on this.[:@]

 

If the intake gasket is leaking you may see antifreeze in the oil depending how bad it is. Look for a yellowish sludge on the inside of the oil fill cap.

I couldn't quite understand what was being written due to punctuation, but if you think there is an external leak you cannot see, goto Sears and invest in a Craftsman mirror in their automotive tools area. I love mine.

 

Intake gaskets can leak coolant internal or external on the 3.1 & 3.4's. Another common external coolant leak area on the 3.1 & 3.4is the head gaskets. Most of the 3.1 & 3.4head gasket leaks I see in the shop areusually,but not alwaysin the #1 cylinder area..(passenger end of the engine in the area under the alternator).

 

i was told that after replacing the intake gaskets the head haskets go soon after, on 3100 and 3400 engines?

i just replaced the intake gaskets on my friends 2001 monte ls3400 last weekend.

 

Most of the cases that I have seen where the car comes back to the shop with a head gasket leak shortly after having the intake gaskets replaced were due to the leak being misdiagnosed in the first place. We like to use florescent dye and a blacklight to pinpoint sources of fluid leaks.After adding the dye to the system that is suspected of leaking and then viewing with the blacklight after some run time,the source of the leak is usuallyvery obvious. Blacklight leak detection kits can be purchased at most good auto parts stores in the $25.00-$50.00 range.

 

Thanks for all the help found the leak today it's the back head gasket time to load it on the trailer behind the trust worthy powerstroke and go fix it this weekend thank to all who helped me out.
