Did you have the same item replaced? It's weird 'cause when the voltage is high enough it runs fine and it hardly ever gets that high now but when it's low it chuggs for power and pops out the exhaust. The guy at Advance Parts wouldn't return the alternator even though I did it right in the lot but he said if it is bigger problems like a BCM, etc, he might do something for me in price on the alternator as in a partial refund or something. We'll see I guess.

Update: stealership called, bad ground wire - fixed and should solve voltage issues they said. Also said I have a rusty ignition coil pack which could be causing popping out the back. I know I need to replace my plugs and wires soon as I rolled ov 100k a while ago.

Hey Nova, here's another idea you should check. I found this problem on my 99 Monte and also my girlfriends S10 Blazer.

Check the positive battery terminal. I don't mean just look at it! Take the little 5/16 bolt right out of the red plastic cover. If you find what I did you'll see a big green corrosion mess. If this is bad enough it's just like running your alternator without connecting the red wire. And that's a no-no. I had all kinds of dash lights, alt lights. I replaced the alt, still no good. Then I remembered my girlfriends problem from a couple years earlier. Boy was I happy to find that mess there (because I knew as soon as I saw it, that I had found the problem.)

These GM side terminal connections are all susceptible to this. It's easy to overlook because they look just fine from the outside.
