p0481 is a fan circuit 2 malfunction code... i've had issues with mine, replaced twice in a month now, first ones were 186000 mile stockers so no big deal, last set was a month old dorman set that locked up and caused me many headaches, my new set is just another pair of dorman's with a lifetime warranty

you can check the fans by hand with the car off and key off, just spin them by hand and listen for roughness and make sure they both spin freely, if both spin free you should check your fan circuit 2 fuse, its in the lower fuse block under the hood.

and fuel pump wise, i wouldn't worry too much about it, a walbro is never a bad idea though.
i'm more biased toward aeromotive myself but walbro's are everywhere and work very well

will it improve throttle response or performance or is it just one of those things that people buy just because?

it's just a safety thing, i just got a stock pump for an 05 S/C SS and dropped it in, performance won't increase unless you're running lean right now which would throw a code

Your stock pump SHOULD be enough, but when you start commanding more and more fuel, you will need to upgrade.

I have a Walbro with less than 1000 miles on it if you're interested just PM me.
