Knocking under floor board
yes ive been employed as a service technician at a gm dealer for 4 years now, i graduated wyo tech back in 2001.
here is a direct quote that i read when i look at this bulletin on the computer this is just the cause and correction not the complete bulletin.
"Cause
This condition maybe the result of small relative movement between the contacting surfaces of various brackets, crossmembers and side rails that are welded together to form the frame/cradle assembly. This slight movement occurs when the assembly is subjected to certain types of load conditions and in some instances may cause a clicking/creaking type noise. The specific areas/contact points on the frame assembly that may cause this condition are indicated below:
Steering gear brackets to rear crossmember
Right/left rear body mount bracket to rear crossmember and right/left side rails
Correction
Apply penetrating grade threadlocker using the 12 ml syringe applicator provided in J 45960, Frame Noise Service Kit, to the locations on the frame assembly and in the manner indicated in the service procedure below. When applying material, it should be flowed onto the designated surfaces or into the designated points in such a manner to ensure adequate and complete coverage. On both horizontal and vertical welds, the threadlocker material should be applied in such a manner that the material flows down over the welds. Care must be taken to ensure that material has been applied to the ends of each of the welds. The technician must ensure that the areas/surfaces indicated are properly covered. To minimize material waste, utilize a small clean container/pan to catch dripping material for reuse. During application of material, technicians should wear appropriate eye and hand protection."
i hope this helps you it is also available at a gm dealer its not top secret. thanks.

sure anytime. you would be amazed the stuff you find on the gm service info website. what i wanna know is how some of these corrections are came upon. i think most of them are found out in the shop where if we cant find the problem we call tech assistance and they may have a correction that hasnt become a bulletin yet and if its a concern that has not been corrected they may give you a hand and then you call them back to let them know the status of the repair and what you did that fixed it. so there is a lot of crap that we have to do besides fix the car, its alot of phone calls and web surfin.
I have an 04 SC monte carlo and when I first bought it I had problems with a knocking noise in under the floor board. I took it to be serviced and they said it was a loose transmission mount. They tightened it and the popping noise stopped for the most part. It started to do it again and I took it back and they said it was also just a natural noise. It just tried not to worry about it very much and now it has stopped popping completely.
I'm still trying to find a list of the DTC codes for theses cars. LOL
I wrote a email to GM and all i got in return is that your car is a 03 and is still under warranty so please bring it to a dealer to have your car worked on. Now go figure the closest dealer is a hours drive from my house and that is at 80 + MPH. So i kind of got the point they don't want me to have them for some reason LOL
I was just wondering if it was a top secret thing to LOL
Thanks JJ for the help on this the other day.

Hey, i have a 97 MC Z34 and i had that same problem about 6 months ago. Do you pull down or feel like you lose hp when you take off? It could be that it is the spark plugs or spark plug wires. I took mine to 3 dealerships to see if i needed a tune up or to find out what was wrong and everyone said that there was nothing wrong. Well i looked for myself and 3 spark plug wires were cracked shorting the plug and causing a backfire. I don't it could be it?
