Default Inaccurate gas gauge

I parked my '04 on a steep driveway and after I drove away my gas gauge goes to full no matter how much gas I have, the only time it is correct is when the car sits still for at least 5 minutes. Does anyone know what happened, is the sending unit shot? Thanks
