i agree with bigrigg there was some thing wrong with the hook ups for the grid or one of the wires. but it also could have a really bed flaw to begin with and took this long to go bam

I agree with a loose connection causing heat. It's like out heated seats before a break happens. It gets extremely hotter before the final burn out. It would take a bunch of cold to do a window in but I suppose all of the ingredients are there.

This is almost a year old guys.... It'll happen for weird reasons, most common being that you continue to push the defrost button, the window can't take the heat so it shatters.

Drive it to the shop and get it replaced.

This is not a Hyundai enthusiast site, so if this is a Hyundai specific problem, odds are slim if people on a Monte Carlo forum would know about it. And in all my years as a Monte Carlo enthusiast, this thread is the only one I know about with mention to an issue with a rear defroster blowing out a rear window (and this is an old thread, many of these members are no longer logging in to this site).
I would suggest finding out if the dealer has any Technical Service Bulletins on this problem for your specific car (might be common with the Tusan). But I would definitely get the window replaced ASAP.
