The VIN is use to match the PCM and it's programming to the vehicle.

If I take my motor and swap it, and it takes awhile, will it affect my PCM? As far as having to have it reset or anything. The car set for a month or two in a garage, without a motor or battery in it.

Are you replacing the engine with same? Or are you upgrading to a super charge? If you are staying with the same engine, 3800 series 2 naturally aspirated, then all you should have to do is the relearn procedure. If you are going with an L67 or L32 then you would need to get the original PCM for that particular engine. Keep in mind that the transmissions for the L67 and L32 differ from the L36, 3800 series 2 N/A, so if you do an engine swap, do the engine and trans from the donor car (to include the PCM/BCM)

Default Blown pcm.

My 2004 Monte Carlo SS Supercharged was jumped by my son while I was away by a Golf cart with six batteries in series. My dashboard odometer reading stays lit while the car is off,my ABS and Traction Control light stays lit while driving, and the AC blows hot air unless I disconnect the battery for 5 min. and then re-connect it.Did he Blow my PCM or BCM or ECM, or are all three the same but just named differently.
