I have a 1987 Monte Carlo and the ignition is stuck in the on position and will not turn so my car is running (the key is also stuck too) and I can't turn off the car how can I turn the car off safely. Thanks in advance

 

I had this happen before and I moved the steering wheel back and forth a bit and also moved the gear selector to make sure it was actually in park. Not sure which of the two things worked (probably moving the wheel) but I was able to turn off my car and remove the key.

 

I moved the wheel went through the gears and still nothing

 

Try locating the ignition fuse in the fuse box and removing that. Should at least shut the car off.

 

Have you tried shutting it off in neutral?

Is it a floor shifter or a column shift?

Finally got it shut off by disconnecting the coil wire had a family friend come he said the ignition is shot.
