Help explaining the difference between these two distributor caps
I’m working on an 87’ Monte Carlo SS and it has the distributor cap that rock auto is selling for $13. Rockauto states the $20 one is for the SS and is the type of cap I’m used to….just trying to understand if there is a significant difference.

There is a significant difference. Referencing your photos, the upper one is for HEI and the ignition coil is installed in the large cavity in the center of the cap. The other cap utilizes an external coil.
