Distributor Cap Popping Off(1st Thread)
Hi my name is Matt, I am new to the forum and this is my first Monte Carlo.
I have a 75 Monte Carlo with a GM 350 with supposedly ~18000 miles.
and on to the original reason for posting my first thread:
A part of the rack and pinon(speaking from listening not working on first hand) in the ignition system had broke causing the key & tumbler to spin but not start.. At the time the most efficient solution was bringing it to a shop(expensive I know but w/e). 3 days later cars fixed and starts. Pulling out of the neighboor morning of picking up the car I punch the gas to join traffic(nothing extreme but still some power). I hear a malfunction noise, a clicking starts.
Turns out it was the distributor cap and after popping it back into place the click is gone. Correct my terminology but the rotor was hitting the inside of the cap to make the click noise.
Twice more when giving the car more gas than normal from a stopped position the cap has "moved" or "popped" positions and started to click.
This was all today and I have not examined anything in daylight nor try to replace the cap or any of it's securing hardware, so I was hoping for some leads or advice, thanks?

i had the same problem with my cougar it is the motor mounts when the engine twists the fire wall and the hood. so it is the motor mounts they dont last forever but when they wier out it causes problems for every thing else.

My Father and I bought the replacement bolt but could not get it trough the second half of the mount(engine side). We could not figure out where to jack the engine to basically move it towards the passenger side and line up the hole. Any ideas?

Glad we could help. I'd just put a piece of wood between the jack and the oil pan so you dont dent it. That should move it enough to get the bolt in. If you have a cherry piker or a chain fall you could lift it from the top. Good luck
