heated seat element
Help. my driver side heat does not work bottom or back. pass. side works. the switch lights up on high and low and fuse is ok. how hard is it to replace the heating grids on both sections. I am thinking the way gm makes stuff that they would say hey no problem just buy a new seat.

The elements are sewn into the covers. The bottom usually goes out 1st. You can pull the connector and check continuity of the element, both top and bottom. If one goes, neither work, as they are wired in series. Green connector, if I remember right. Bottom costs something like $270 for the part, plus about 1 hr of labor at an upholstery shop. Not cheap. My bottom went out on my 01, and I bypassed the seat, and heated only the back, I made some kind of jumper wire.

I tried that. The seat was JUNK! Buy the seat, but get it from gmpartsdirect.com, unless you have a good relationship with your parts department, as I do. Try offering them 75% of list on special orders. They will probably take it.

looks like 210.00 from gmpartsdirect plus shipping and I know someone to help me with the install. I think I know what to ask santa for. I like the idea of bypassing the stealership also.

Take a printout of the gmpartsdirect quote to your GM dealer, and offer them that price. Find out the cost. If it's a profit, they are STUPID not to sell it to you for that price and not take a profit on something special ordered. PURE PROFIT! Shipping is a killer from gmpartsdirect.

thanks for that good idea. I know the parts manager well enough to see if he can help me out. I also might be lucky enough to let them pick up the shiiping.I wish I could find just the element pack but maybe it is easier to just replace the whole skin and plug back in
