Howdy gang,

My sister-in-law's Monte has been smelling of gasoline after sitting overnight, and upon a brief inspection, I found the culprit. I have searched the forums and even auto parts websites for any part with the word "fuel" in it - can I can't figure out what it is!

I'm sure most of your wizards will know just from looking at it, so here's some photos, TIA!

I don't think I've ever heard of a fuel regulator on a 3100/3400/3800 going bad/leaking. First time for anything.

Was any work recently done to the car (like LIM gaskets)? Given how the UIM is on the 3100/3400 it's easy for a poorly seated fuel injector or a faulty O-Ring (usually from re-using an O-Ring) to cause fuel fumes to appear to be from that location. If you did not see it leaking from the regulator, just take a good look around the injectors and rails to be sure you got the culprit.

 

I had to replace the fuel pressure regulator on my 3.1 about a year ago. It lasted 192,000 miles but it did start to leak at the seam, so I can confirm firsthand that they do go bad. Cost $65.00 for a new one.
