Default dumbarse didn't change his air filter, dropped a rod

I was lazy. which is my better route to take care of this. do I pull the engine, and rebuild, or what years of 3.8l v6 chevy engines will fit a 2002 monte carlo

theres a Buttload of cars that carry the GM 3.8 engine....impalas, a few buicks, grand prix, 2000-2005 montes but you have to get the SS or LT models i believe. im sure there are others which members wil chime in...didnt know an Air filter could cause a rod to go..... i knew an oil filter maybe but ya

Any Series II L36 3800 will fit your 2002. I believe that spans from '97-'04. You might have minor sensor swaps and that's it.
OR, you can upgrade your engine to a Series III 3800 (ran from 2004- until the end of the 3800). I would recommend a 2005+ Series III L26. Again, it's almost a direct swap. You need an adapter for your throttle body (since the Series III is drive-by-wire). And you have to remedy a PCV vac line. In '05+ they used forged connecting rods for better durability (the Series II and the '04 Series III had cast rods).

If my L36 took a dump, I would go for a '05+ L26 without thinking twice.
