Did you run low on gas lately? Water and debris are very, very bad for engines. If it is that, it will burn off sooner rather than later.

Unplug it then try to start the car.. If the problem seems like its gone then its most likely the maf.

Some people have cleaned theirs and it worked. Ive tried cleaning 3 maf sensors in the past 10 years and it never worked. BUT I think thats because I ruined mine having a crappy air filter.

You may want to change the Fuel filter, this will cause some sputtering if it has set for the 3 years.
Not sure what you have or engine but another thing to consider is the Catalytic converter may be plugged.

The cat would throw a code. The one on my wife's SRX coded before there was even a hint of trouble, then coded again to let her know the mechanic put in the wrong cat. (All Cadillacs are 50 state emissions. $600 for that bit of trivia.)

Default The car is a 2000 MC 3.4L

I put new wires (Duralast Gold), & AC Delco plugs, it still sputters but when it warms up , it gains its power somewhat, & the check engine is still on ( sometimes it blinks). I put a scanner on it, & I got trouble code P0300..
