Thanks for all the info guys. I definitely do have a lot to look at now. I just removed the engine cover to see what it looked like and found a mouse nest, none of the cables where severed but there where a few that had been chewed on and one had some copper exposed so it could be that.

Going to take me a bit to figure out exactly what you all said to check but I should be able to manage it. I will post back what I find when I check it.

Sounds like the exact same problem I had with my couple a couple weeks ago, I would periodically turn the key and nothing would happen, but everything would light up, after a while of trying it would finally start. It was the starter and if you are not hearing any cranking of the starter upon turning the key, I would start with your battery first, as sometimes they don't give enough cranking amps, then I would pull the starter and test it. That is what I did and when I hooked the starter up to direct power and nothing happened it answered my question.

For S & giggles Check the ignition too. They do wear after sometime & do weird things. My friends Monte starts fine, but they can take key out while driving with no issue
Good luck

Check all wiring, clip exposed portions and repair using new wire cut to sized and soldered. I had headlight issues in a Cavalier because of exposed copper. It may be a long shot, but the exposed wire may have something to do with it.

I would also check the ignition cylinder. Sometimes those go bad and start screwing around.

As far as the mouse nest the car hasn't been sitting since I've got it, guessing it was from the previous owner(only had the car for maybe 7 months now just never looked under the engine cover). I have also since done more research and am thinking its either the solenoid or the starter that is causing this, the battery is less then 6 months old so I don't think its that but I will still check just in case.
