Hi,
Im a newby and this is my first post. Im having a problem with my 2000 Monte Carlo SS.
Sometimes when I turn the key to start the engine I get nothing, the lights on the dash come on but the engine won't turn over.This usually happens after I have shut the engine off after going somewhere.
I turn the key on/off several times, sometimes let it sit for a minite and eventually it will start like nothing was ever wrong.This only happens once in awhile but is very annoying and im afraid one of these time it
won't start at all. I have been checking the web and have seen one site where the same thing is happening and it has been suggested that it could be the "Body Control Module" .
Has anyoneheard of this before. Any help would be appeciated.Thanks in advance..Wayne.W

 

yah, i think someone was talking about this a while back, and thats what they were looking into was the body control module

Im told the BCM is under the drivers seat, is this correct?
Is this something that I can replace myself fairly easy? I do most repairs on my other cars myself except where I need a lift?
About how much will the BCM cost? Thanks again. WW

 

The same thing happened in my '01 SS LE. It was the starter. Same symptoms as yours. Finally just wouldn't start.

Do you have an aftermarket alarm? I just ran across the problem myself and the Security light flashed on the dash. I found out the PassLock 3 modual harness was loose. Just plugged it back in.

I would check for loose wires around the ignition and BCM as well.

 

I would put the money on the starter.....
If it starts ok when cold then will not crank or hard to crank when it is hot and you have lights ect. normally would point to a bad starter.

 

I didn't see anything weather related, but I agree if it doesn't start when it is really cold, it could be a selenoid problem then in the starter as well. Sometimes it just won't engage.

My post had nothing to do with weather.
What was meant by cold
When the engine and the starter is cold (and the start is going bad) it would take less amps to turn the engine over
When it is hot (after the engine has been running) because of heat build up coming from the exhaust and hitting the starter it would make it hard to crank the engine over.

After a while it will effect the starter no matter hot or cold as the internal parts start to short out.
