Default Whining/Grinding Left hand turns only

  • I have had my 2005 SC SS since I ordered it new in 2005
  • Extended warranty until 1.08.11 - so it's done
I have a grinding or whining sound when I acclerate and turn left only and here are some other facts:
  • ISS replaced by dealer 5/2010 when I first heard a noise
  • Passenger side (opposite side) wheel bearing replaced by dealer 4/2010 when I first heard anything and felt it was loose
Since, I've had this shaft replaced and the wheel bearing, I'm suspicious that it's the ISS again, but could be. It seems to do it more when cold, but not always the case. Even warm, any left turn will cause "power steering pump whine" to describe it, but it doesn't sound like it's coming from the power steering pump. Any ideas? Any help is appreciated!

Did you check your power steering fluid?

Did you spray the knuckle on the ISS to grease it?

Are you sure the wheel bearings aren't just bad again? I was going to suggest that since it's only turning left

Default Found the issue

Thanks. I was already down in the garage this morning and took everything off to the wheel hub and checked it and it's definitely the wheel bearing. You'd think the dealership would have replaced BOTH sides at the same time...but I think I'll be doing my own work on it anyway from now on since it's out of warranty (like I do my '68 Camaro)! A pair of wheel bearings/hubs on order. Thanks for replying. I appreciate it.

Here's a nice little write-up on how to change the hubs on a grand-prix and since it's the same car it can help you.

Default Thanks again

Oh yeah, I've got that down... The only thing I've ever been worried about was the ABS and speed control volume sensors, but it's a simple plug for ABS. You guys are excellent. I love this site! Thank you very much!

It is nice that it's all built in and easy to do, but when one of those sensors fail you just can't replace it

So it has its pros and cons lol
