Your '05 SHOULD have a cabin air filter. To get to it:
- Turn on the wipers and turn off the car when they are pointing straight up (should keep them out of your way).
- Looking at the cowl cover under the windsheild, you should have a "split" cowl cover (it's 2 pieces instead of one long one).
- On the passenger side, you have to remove a bunch of plastic push rivets/pins/holders (they are re-usable). Remove them around the passenger half of the cowl cover.
- Lift the cover off and there it should be (unless someone removed it).
This thread better illustrates everything:

Odd that GM would have changed that on the '05 Monte (the shop book also notates a split cowl). Regardless of split cowl or one piece cowl, the cabin air filter is still there.
If you look at the permanent cabin air filter fix thread I posted, it shows step-by-step pics and descriptions that gain you access to the air filter. Attached are 2 images from the '05 shop book.

For those interested my car does have cabin filter and the cowl cover is split at the midway point. Replaced filter and installed the "deflector" as GM calls it install was a piece of cake.
Thanks to all.
Thanks to all.
