Default Battery light stays on after car shut off

After I shut off the car and remove the key, the battery light and the gear shift indicator light remain on and the battery drains. Is it possible the switch is not completely off enough though I can remove the key? I was thinking it might be the switch.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

About 30 seconds after I shut the car off, I hear a click when the headlights go out and then the gear shift light comes on and stays on until the battery drains. Is it possible the headlight switch is going bad?
