??? about vertical lift doors and door wire harness
Ok, so my buddy just bought a 2005 Monte. It has vertical lift door hinges on it. and he want's me to install some regular OEM hinges.
With the verticle lift hinges installed, the doors only swing open approx 70% of the way of OEM. They can raise upwards like a "Lambo" door.
I've looked at the hinge manufacturers website (Vertical Lift Doors Inc) and tried to find some installation instructions for the wire harness ......so I could 'reverse engineer' the installation, but all they had listed for the hinges were a price of $1,200
I'm just wondering if the doors have airbags inside them and if there are any special wires in there, wires that have a certain type of ohm resistance.

Same bolt holes. They are one piece units. No extra bolt holes or adapter plates or welding ir drilling holes....they just bolt right in.
Here's a link to the manufacturer https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...95039771,d.cGU

I like the look of vertical doors, but you have to be careful. The body was not designed to hold the door weight like that and the wiring harnesses have to be extended (there is no plug-n-play kit, it's get your wire, soldering iron and hopefully heat shrink tubing and wire loom).
I know a guy who did this on a 5th gen Camaro, he regretted it later (because the shop did not do a good job on the harnesses, that car was plagued with electrical issues and eventually the doors did not line up properly, reasons why he traded the car in).
I really wanted to do this for my Monte, but between the price and risk, I opted not to.
Just factors to consider with this mod.

I have a 2002 bmw and it has airbags in the doors, so when my friend mentioned that his car has side airbags, I assumed they in the doors as well.

Yeah, he ended up selling them. Actually, I ended up selling them for him. He was going to take them to a metal recycling yard so I told him to let me try to sell'em for him. He was like, "Here bro, you can have 'em, I don't want them". So he gave them to me. I took them home and I put them up for sale on craigslist with "Make Cash Offer". I would say that, within 6 hours they were sold. The person made a cash offer saying he would be willing to pay half of the new price. So he drove 90 miles and paid $600. I went straight to my friends house and dropped the money off with his wife (he was at work) I told her to tell him the 600 bucks is from the hinges that he was going to give away to the metal recycler.
So, a few hours later (after he got off work), he comes to my house and shows me the new set of tires he had installed on the Monte (paid for with the $$$ from the hinges he was going to throw out), plus (same $$$) he hands me a Family Season Pass to a water slide park good for ALL SUMMER LONG!!!! How cool is that. It's already been over a hundred degree's out here in California. Me and my two sons are going to Love the water park!!!!
