2K Monte stalls when put in gear
My grandson's 2000 3.4 Monte runs fine, starts fine,, what it does is when at idle, and then put in reverse,, it stalls, will start again fine, they may go in reverse and go, or stall again,,,, he did not mention any dash check lights, I do have a code reader I need to put on it,,, but what are some of the 20 things that can cause a stall when shifting transmission ???

First, I would recommend to see if the car has any active or pending codes. Next, what happens if you rev it in park?
Keep in mind, when you shift out of park and into a gear, you are now putting a load on the engine, RPMs change.
Here is a thread to review that may have some helpful maintenance things to check out:

Top of my head of what I would look at (assuming there are no codes):
- Check for vacuum leaks
- Clean the EGR tunnel, IAC and the throttle body
- Ensure you have a good/clean air filter
- Change plugs and wires if they have close to 100K miles, or if you have BOSCH plugs installed
Hope that helps!

I would say start looking up each code and follow the diag chart for them. Just for grins, you may want to verify all the fuses are good. Trust me, sometimes it can be that stupid of a problem (I had one this spring).

ok, will try that fuse check,,,, but,, after pulling up codes,,, I cleared all the codes, with my code reader,,,,, by doing that, the check engine light on dash turned off,, and I drove it around, car did not mis-behave, nor did check engine light come back on,, so issue may be intermittent,,, ,, the ABS light stayed on, as that is part 2 of the car hiccups, and not related to any engine malfunctions,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, ??? I am assuming. If it is the EGR valve,,,, is there a way to bench test that,,, by applying voltage, and seeing if it opens and closes ?

replace cam sensor,,,, egr valve,, and swapped out the ignition coil pack with one my mech. friend stripped from a junker,,,,, I do not like the idle,, seems rough,,, but it runs and starts fine,,,, it has been a week,,,, need to get car back and see if any codes returned,, last code was,,, intermittent missfire on #6,,,,,no other codes,,,, so changed ignition coil module,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, will have to wait on results,,,,
