Default 2004 monte carlo ss long crank before start

Hi Fellow members!
I have a 2004 Monte Carlo SS. I have replaced the Spark plugs with factory ac delco and wires. When vehicle sits for a few minutes it takes a few seconds to crank and then it starts fine. Not sure what it is. It did it before and after i replaced the plugs. Was thinking if it was a bad Crank sensor or FP regulator. Thank you.

Vehicle idles good. no check engine light on. no white smoke when it cranks over.

Could be the fuel pump or FPR, maybe even fuel filter... It could even be the ICM going bad, crank sensor... the list goes on and on.

pull the vac line off of the fuel pressure regulator, if you see or smell gas, that is your problem

if not, i would replace the fuel filter

Best thing to do is hook up a fuel pressure tester...run the engine and shut it off...watch the pressure tester gauge for a dramatic drop in pressure...if you are losing a lot of pressure immediately after shutdown, the check valve in the fuel pump may be failing...this will cause increased crank time...also a fuel filter that is starting to plug up can cause this issue as well...btw if you have a series III 3800, you will not have a fuel pressure regulator...its in the tank and part of the fuel pump

I'm like the rest of the guys, it has something to do with the fuel. Keep us updated so we know what it is just in case it ever happens to one of us.

I'm having the same problem, so far replaced iac, tps, tb, i did the zzp supercharged kit install so the injectors were replaced and tuned up, i did a fuel filter change 2 years ago so i will do this next but I'm thinking fuel pump, also my flow sender must be done as well cause the gauge goes from E to F randomly.

i found a nice aem fuel pump that goes in to our stock pump housing and I'm thinking of going that route since the oem one is very expensive and I've heard anyone with a swap on these engines should not mess with aftermarket pumps like from auto zone or pep boys or any parts store, i spoke to someone from zzp they gave me a green light for the aem, so i should be ordering it in a day or two, but i have to find a used pump put it in since my fuel sender or flow lever is fried as well.

there are several used pumps on ebay from 25$ and up i figure this is a cheap effective and a no brainer for me at least with my car.

ill let you guys no what happens after i put it in.

Try just turning on the key before cranking, when fuel pump stops loading then crank- if car starts right up then change fuel pump
