2004 Monte Carlo - FM radio has sound, but not on correct frequencies
Hello all,
We have a 2004 Monte Carlo that I've been looking into getting an aux port or Bluetooth radio put in, but was told the antenna needed to be intact for either of those to work.
About a year ago, our FM radio stopped working. Still had AM, but no sounds on FM. Didn't care, had the CD player. CD player just went out, so wanted the aux/bt.
I was randomly pushing buttons today (in that frustrated way we do) and have no idea what I hit, but now I'm getting static-y sound on FM one or two frequencies away, and when I dial into the correct station frequency I have NO sound.
What is causing this? Does this mean the aux port will or won't work?
Thank you!
EDIT - Just fooled around with it some more. On the correct station, if you turn the volume up all the way, you get no static, and the correct sound comes out of the door speaker very quietly. Why would changing the frequency one notch change what speakers it comes out of?

Assuming you are dealing with a factory radio, you can add an AUX jack if you have XM. And for me, I had to add an XM receiver (I never added the XM antenna as I have no real interest in XM, I just need the radio to present the option) and then added an AUX jack to the factory radio. Here's a thread that documents that topic:

As for the radio signal, these cars have a module in the back to handle the rear defroster and antenna signals. Potentially, that module could be failing. As for volume issues, some of it might be on how much signal you are picking up and possibly issues with the amp in the trunk.
