2000 SS P0102. New MAF or check wiring?
Hello everyone, I am new to the forum but home to be on more in the future, for more than just car repair advice, but like many, before me, I have been driven to this site because of some car troubles.
I did a large amount of searching and reading and I keep coming across the same diagnosing steps for a code P0102 in a 2000 Monte Carlo SS. Other than the code, the only symptom of a problem is that the mpg went down the tubes.
I checked with a multimeter at the plug and it reads about 5 volts, and then I went from the plug to the battery and got almost 12 volts perfectly. Could my code still be from a bad MAF sensor or could it be in the wiring harness?
Thanks! I didn't want to thread-jack or revive any long-dead threads but if you have any advice if I broke any of the rules, I am open and willing to make any changes. I can only keep so many things in my head at once.

well, the internet says that both readings should be near 12 volts. I think I am going to plug in the reader, reassemble everything and check to see if or how much the voltage changes when I step on the gas.

Its wrong. Plus IMO just measuring raw DC voltage is the wrong approach beyond verifying it has power / ground. The signal wire is a frequency output.
Plug in a scan tool and see what the pcm is getting for MAF output.

Thanks, folks. Apologies for the delay. The school I work at has changed its learning model a while ago and now it will be changing again on top of other things with getting having kids.
Nitehawkjcb, you are right. The aftermarket one was not good, I assume, now I have an AcDelco one on the way.

Hey guys, interesting result. I feel kind of silly for not noticing (but neither did the first shop that I went to) but it was a fuse issue. The second opinion shop checked the issue and reported to me the news. That is all the information they gave me.
