Hi Everyone,

I purchesed a 2000 Monte, and the key was not functioning properly from the day I bought it. Eventually you could just pull the key out no matter which position it was in. About a week ago the car stopped starting all together. i have lights radio, but won't crank. I replaced the lock cylinder and the ignition switch after i read all the post regarding that. After I replaced it i went throught the 10 min cycles with the security light flashing on the fourth try still nothing. The security light no longer blinks, but she still won't crank. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

 

key fob work?

 

didn't come with a key fob

 

You may have to take it to a dealership so they can use the Tech-II scanner to program the key to the security system

 

does the power door lock switch on the inside work?
can you hear the fuel pump go when you turn the key one or two clicks?

 

check fuses for ignition and swap the RAP relay with a less important one and see if it starts. the RAP relay is in the drivers side fuse panel.

The door lock on the iside does work
the fuel pump kicks on with the first click of the key
I checked every fuse in all four fuse boxes
changed the relay from the passenger side to the driver side

Still Nothing.

 

ok, so the security is out of the question, i would deffinatly check the starter then. if you know whick two post on the starter to jump with a screw driver you could see if it will turn over and crank the engine
