Default 2000 monte ss 3.8 sticky shifter

Hello, My name is Kathleen. new member... I have a 00' SS 3.8. I took it in to the shop and had the mechanic fix the rear end suspension. He also recommended the thermostat housing to be replaced. The shop did a great job on the rear end but, I took a trip to Long Beach, CA. and my car overheated to the red zone. After I noticed it was getting hot, I turned off the air conditioning then turned on the hot air thru outside ventilation. It cooled it off but not much. being we were 4 hours into the trip and in the middle of the desert at 120 degrees. I pulled over... This is odd to me that the mechanic would put a whole different housing he also just placed a bolt in without a bleeder valve for the radiator fluid...I let it cool off refilled the overflow which was dry filled up the radiator bled out what i could from the bolt they had bonded in and made it there as well as back home driving in the night to avoid the heat. I am concerned that may have damaged something. Any rate I went to the creek with my teenage daughters and thru the caos of our two anxious Rott-pei dogs who then spilled a 32 oz soda into the shifter boot, console and everywhere. I cleaned it out the best I could at the time and drove home. A few hours later my fiance went to move the car and the thing wouldnt shift out of park! So I took apart the console to look in the thing It was sticky! so I blew it out with the air compressor and cleaned it with rubbing alcohol just a bit for the sticky soda now I dont know what to use to relube the gear shifter or what. I also noticed the housing for the thing is broken and so i now have to order the parts but dont know what they are called? Any feed back on my poor car I manage but cannot say i'm very savy on these things.
