sticky situation
Hi, I'm new to this site, and I'm having some problems starting my 97 Monte Carlo V6 3.1L.
I have spilled soda too many times and it has gotten into the gear shifter and console. It's been sticky before, but not a problem, really.
Last night when I got home from going out to eat, I put the car in park, turned off the car and tried to pull the key out. But it wouldn't. After several attempt it came out.
This morning it was cool out, Iwent to leave and I couldn't get my vehicle out of park. The button on the shifter was stuck. I'm not really sure what to do. I've searched the web and found a car manual, but don't understand it, and it showed how to disasemble tthe console.
I don't know how to get the gear shifter off so I can pull up the console. I should probably clean everything up. Someone told me to spray WD40 on it, but I'm not sure if that's okay or not.
Any help would sure be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The whole time I was reading your post I was thinking get out the WD-40!! This stuff works wonders on all sorts of problems and will break down the gooey sugar which may be the cause of your problem and it won't hurt any ninal or plastic that you spray it on. You may also want to invest in a sippy cup as well to prevent future spillage problems...lol.
