Exclamation 2000 Monte carlo SS horn does not work

Ok so working on the Monte Carlo trying to get the horns to work. Just made a trip to the junkyard today & got some out of a 03 Monte, plugged them in and they worked for about 5-6 honks then died. Been trouble shooting and found that my old horns had bad connections they were completely corroded, cleaned them up and the wire connectors also, plugged them in nothing so took them back out and hooked them up directly to the battery using jumper wires and they worked just fine. Next I checked the Relay by switching it over to the fog relay and it worked so the relay is good. I did notice before though that when I pressed the button the relay would click now it does not, So checked all the fuses in the car looked all good, however none of them were listed for the horns, So which fuse is for the horns?

One thing I was thinking it could be is a bad connection in the steering wheel, and if it is how do I go about removing the drivers air bag? TIA

how do I go about removing the drivers airbag

disconnect battery

unplug airbag sensor there are 2 of them. one on driver and the other on passenger side. they both locate under the fuse panel on driver/passenger sides. it's a bright yellow color plastic piece.

there are 3 screws holes in the steering cover behind the steering wheel. use a medium size screwdriver. make sure the screwdriver you using is not too long other wise you won't get in the hole. if it's too long it will hit the dash. stick screwdriver in the hole and twist it left or right and the cover should pop out. do the same thing to the other screw hole. when you get to the last hole hold on the airbag in front of the steering wheel cause the airbag will drop right out. do not take out any screws cause you don't need to. when sticking screwdriver in the hole make sure you stick in the empty hole not the hole with screws. you probably need to get on your back to see where the hole is at.

A lot of instructions that say "disconnect the battery" I ignore as stupid. If you have your face in front of this airbag and trip it with the battery still connected the possibility of death is real.

Disconnect the battery.

Ok thanks for the info, I will pull the air bag off this weekend and see if there is a bad connection or something.

I will keep you guys posted, but in the mean time is there anything else I could check for?

another possibility to try as a test.
connect the ground to a better ground that you know is good.
i have not looked at my horn so dont know if it is grounded through the bracket or by a wire but in either case running a wire from a different ground location will do the trick.
hope this helps good luck

Ok fixed the problem today turned out one of the newer horns was bad and had a blown fuse, did not realize it was right under the Relay lol.
