I recently replaced both the rack and pinion and the power steering pump.
Everything is working BUT the steering wheel resistance is all but gone. It turns almost too easy now compared to when I bought the car.
Is there anything that can be done to help create a bit of resistance in the steering wheel?
thanks
That is a pretty unusual question. It's possible the resistance you were used to was old parts. Especially if the car has variable effort power steering and something malfunctioned with that part of the system. Without experiencing it first hand, it's possible everything is fine.

Thats what I was thinking. Even replacing a slipping belt on a PS pump was a night and day difference with my Nissan. Then after changing the actual pump, before driving, I thought at first the car wasnt steering because of how easy it was.
Well I know this isn’t normal due to the fact that I bought the car when it was 2yrs old. I had replaced the rack about a year ago. That rebuilt rack wasn’t nearly this loose. My monte doesn’t have any kind of electronic steering assist to its setup.
But… had to replace the rebuilt with a new build rack and pinion. The rebuilt rack blew its seal around the steering shaft and drained all the fluid in a matter of seconds.
But after tons of searching I have found some info on how to tighten or loosen the steering. Only problem now is trying to find the sizes of socket and one for the llen wrench style plug.
I am unable to locate any info on the sizes let alone the tool to buy.
There’s a rack guide plug that increases or decreases steering wheel tension. This can be adjusted on any vehicle with rack and pinion.
Here are a few pics.
This is kinda what mine looks like. Cut view, see where the guide pad presses against the rack. General information on how it’s adjusted to create the proper tension.
