Default Xm Radio Install

Forgive me if this is posted already; I looked but could not find it. Maybe I even saw someone ask somethign similar before which is why I thought of it.

Anyway...

What do I need to install XM in my Monte and make it work like a factory system? I believe my car was listed as not being XM Ready. I don't believe there is an XM button on the head unit, but there is an Aux button, and for some reason I think there is an XM light on the display.

Would I just need the white XM tuner box add on and antenna, or would I have to get a whole new head unit?

Where would be the place to install the antenna, or do they just come with the type that you get from a portable unit at Best Buy?

As always, thanks!

actually unless you are really into this idea of XM i owuld actually go sirus.
they have better channels for free and here with any luck it should go in to the merge between them and then they will have all the channels from wha ti have heard.

Also if you go to sirus site you can go to sale items etc.. and get one that is factory referb for like 50.00 and then jus thave to pay the connection etc.. I paid like 80.00 for a 6th month contract it works out to like 12.00 a month on it.

Also you can ge tthe plug and play versions and take them from car to car if you want. BUT GET THE HARD WIRE KIT. this gives you the ANT. powersupply. and also the ANT. connection that will go inline with the factory ANT. ont he stereo. and this also gets rid of any static in the whole thing. other wise it is a FM modualtor.

But to put it in the car you will need to ge tthe tuner for XM or Sirus. and it will need to have the right stereo to be compadiabel with it this way.
the other way works on all of them.

If you car was not XM ready then I think you will need someting like the XM Direct for GM cars. This will work if your head unit is not just a basic AM FM radio.
XM Directis like $300 or more and comes with a magnetic antenaor you can get one of those best buy units and run in thorugh the AUX on your car stereo, but I think 05 don't have an AUX input you will need something like the PAC Audio AAI-GM12 which will give you two AUX inputs. I would not go with an FM modulator they suck. With the Pac Audio module you will not lose any sound quality.

If you ask me Sirius has better talk shows and more Sports But XM plays better music. A few of my friends agree but everyone is different.

all that i know of are,
I only pay for my service and the prices are in this so i dont have to worry about gettign on the wrong channel etc...

As for music i dont know. I listen to howard stern, and also to Maxuims Streach show. and then coedy or hair nation with is my gen. rock. the new oldies LOL

But you can ge thte whole set up as a plug and play from surius for under 100.00 and then to get set up is depending on the package you pick also
