Need help with radio
Hello, i am looking to put an aftermarket radio in my 2004 chevy monte carlo ss supercharged. my uncle has a 2001 mc ss and he claims that since i have an anti theft light blinking from my radio that if i try to take it out and replace it, it will mess up the anti theft system and lock up my car. is he correct or no?
I'm pretty sure he is correct, for the most part the anti theft system is pretty hard to get around? I've seen other people here mount their stock radio in the trunk area so they can still access their onboard settings....(oil life monitor etc...) I hope that helps, I'm sure someone else with that gen Monte can help further.......

I've got an 01 Monte SS with a Kenwood Double DIN, no factory headunit anywhere. You need a special wiring harness so your door chimes and instrument panal cluster will work properly (cost me $130 at custom sounds, the audio store near me) but ive had no problems what so ever.

I believe these days there are two types of wiring harnesses. One harness has LONG wires just for the data stream so you can relocate your factory radio to the center console or trunk and the data communication stays active (and you can still use the stock radio for all the non-radio features it serves). Another harness tricks out the anti-theft system so you don't need the radio in the car at all (but now all those non-radio features have to be performed with their secondary methods).
I wanted to upgrade my stock radio to one that supports MP3s and found I could do so with the factory MP3 deck used in the Cavvies and Ventures (just needed a shop with a GM Tech II to program it for my car).
