Car Stereo Installation
Hi everyone I just bought a brand new 2006 Chevy Monte Carlo. I'ma fan of awesome car stereos and I've currently got a custom installed system in my 2003 Grand Am that myself and some friends did. The problem I'm facing with the new car is I would like to keep the factory head unit in for the moment but I would like to install new 6x9s and hook my amps up to the headunit. Eventually I would like to get a custom headunit but for now I'd like to use the factory. I can wire everything myself I just need to know what kind of wiring harness or adapter and other items I would need to make this possible so I don't take the chance of messing anything up since it's a brand new car. If anyone could help me out I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

RE: Car Stereo Installation
If you want to use a aftermarket amplifier with the stock head unit, you will need a LOC (Line Output Convertor). Wire it to the 4 wires for the rear 6x9's (2 positive, 2 negative), and it will convert it from speaker wire, to female ports for RCA wires. Then, just install the amp as you would with a aftermarket amp. You will have to run the remote wire to a switched line, or more commonly a fuse, like the radio fuse. That way, when the radio is turned on or off, the amp will turn on and off also.
