Default 05 monte aftermarket stereo installation

Hey, I just recently bought my 05 Monte and decided to put my old aftermarket single din cd player in it. I purchased all of the necessary parts like the dinger box, antenna adapter, etc, and started the install. When putting the cd player in the hole I realized the plastic piece in the back as holding me up so I cant push it in all of the way. Have any of you had that problem? And what did you do about it?

cut it. its nothing but a brace for the stock stere and honestly quite useless, tin snips worked for me, but a dremel with a 36" extension arm would work as well and would give a cleaner cut.

This happens with just about every stereo, use a dremel to carve out the space you need

After I dropped the GMOS-01 in that same plastic slot (it will fall into the back part of your center console but the wires aren't noticeable) and put the aftermarket stereo on the bottom and the installation kit's box on top. But then again I left the antenna adapter out because of your very problem. It's a compromise but I listen to the music on my iPod more than I do the radio.

Thanks guys, I had already cut it before I posted but I am glad I did the right thing. I was afraid I would be kicking myself if there was a better way.

I will also be posting another thread about running the power wire. I have been looking for an easy entrance into the car, but cant seem to find one.

(I think this is what you are looking for ...)

1970 - 1972 = 1st Generation

1973 - 1977 = 2nd

1978 - 1980 = 3rd

1981 - 1988 = 4th

1995 - 1999 = 5th

2000 - 2005 = 6th

2006 - 2007 = 7th

Technically there were only 6 generations. The 06-07 Montes were "refreshed 6th gens."

Exactly what I was looking for, Thanks! And the biggest difference I can see in the 6th/7th gens are the headlights... I think the 6th gen stand out and resemble a Monte more than a 7th, but 7th look good too, especially since they have more options when replacing them with halos and stuff.
