Can't run 4 gauge through firewall?

I grounded mine on my seat belt buckle. but it doesn't matter as long as it's a solid ground with gurth to support the current to ground your equipment.

Considering the battery is located on the passenger side, i'm having a hard time understanding the logic of running the power wire across the car like that. Longer wire = higher cost, more resistance and more voltage drop.
