Default adapter for aftermarket radio

hey whats up mc forum. i have a 2004 monte ss with the factory amp for the stereo system. i ordered a new pioneer radio and pioneer speakers for front and back...i got EVERYTHING i need except for the wiring harness. i called crutchfield and the guy told me any gm product with a factory amp is a bose system (i did not know this) but anyway he told me that i need a special wiring harness so i could still use the factory amp and have my door chimes still work. the harness i need is made by Metra and its model GMOS-04 and it costs $99.99. (heres a link to it Metra GMOS-04 GM Factory Integration Adapter Retains OnStar® system, factory door chime, and Bose® system with aftermarket radio in select GM vehicles at Crutchfield.com)

Has anyone had any experience with this adapter/harness? I read the reviews and it sounded like this harness can be a pain in the a$$ but from what the guy from crutchfield told me i need it in order to use my factory amp with the aftermarket radio. I'm gonna get everything professionally installed but i wanna know if this is necessary before i spend the $100. any and all responses are greatly appreciated. thanks

I used the same kit but switched it out for a Scosche kit.

It will work just fine, although I think I got mine for much less off Amazon or something.

And if I remember right, the reason I switched was the Scosche kit was louder.

Get the cheap walmart one, lose your chimes, save your money.
