Default Exhaust Questions

No this isn't a which muffler should i get for the 3800 thead After alot of searching on youtube i think i've found what kind of exhaust i want to do. Replace the mufflers with a set of glasspacks and leave the resonator to start. Now my questions are, from the resonator back, what size piping is on the car stock? Whenever i'm done with all exhaust work i'd like to have 2.5" piping for the system. And how big of a gp should i get? Thanks

Let me let me Iknow i know pick me!

Its 2" all the way from front to tail...

I split mine from the Y back to 2 1/4.... I was going to go to glass packs...However on my 1999 theres like only 27" max length to the bumper cover... from the Y... Glass packs were to long so id have no tail pipes,
So I deceided to go with xcellerator chambered Mufflers.. and still had room for tail pipes. (I dumped the turbo mufflers)...
What a difference..it has a great sound(not ricey) more of a rumble..and no droneing inside the car. also it only cost me $145.00 instahled!

Sorry for being so long winded keane ...

May as well do the whole shibang! I say get yourself a downpipe that ways u ben delete is done, and you have a true 2.5in or go with the 3in being s/c, get piece of 2.5in pipe and a glass pack to replace stock res, get the 2.5 in rear y pipe and your muffs of choice, (i'll get the link to the 2.5in res back)

https://montecarloforum.com/forum/ho...00-cars-33922/

Stock after res is like 2.25 when I went to weld on my 2.5 in glaspack onto the there(res replace) I had a good gap all the way around, but worked my magic with some 2.5 inner dia pipe and a big hammer smoshed it in a bit and still had to fill in gap with weld!

I'm considering doing the whole system, being supercharged which would be best for the long run? 2.5" or 3" I do plan to drop pulley sizes in the future. I was also considering doing 1 glasspack in place of the resonator and no mufflers, but i'm concerned overpossible drone. As far as the downpipe, i was thinking of going right to headers. I'll have to talk to the shop i go to and get some pricing ideas. But if i start replacing things and changing sizes i need to replace everything correct?

For the new Monte? Keep it stock... It's at least 2.25", which is plenty for the time being. Get headers first.

If this is for the '97, just chop the old muffler off and throw a Flowmaster Deltaflow 40 series on it.

Old monte already has exactly what you said. Did that a long time ago. New Monte i should just leave the piping? I atleast want to get more sound out of it. I'm thinking 2 glasspacks in place of the mufflers.

I think I saw a guy on you tube that had dual glasspacks (cherry bombs)
with no tails and it sounded...to me kinda weird...

Thats why I went with the dual excellerators..since there chambered...
and Tails... Its definately more deeper tone and sounds more natural.(Deeper rumble).not like a typical V-6 rice burner...

Its kinda personal preference...but since your supercharged and mine isnt...
Im sure its going to sound a lot different than mine does...

So, I guess I cant really speak on how your may or maynot sound.

Maybe look into a complete Magnaflow system as Chibi Mike suggested when I made my post about Cheap exhaust systems...

Everyone likes something different. I'm trying to decide on replace mufflers with glasspack and leave resonator or do a muffler delete and put a glasspack in place of the resonator. Hard part is i can't do this stuff myself, so i have to have a shop do my work. Which is why i was wondering what i should do as far as the downpipe to mufflers, if i should change the pipe diameter.

The downpipe won't matter if you get headers, it is not needed with them, as it replaces it. The best bet, IMO, is to get headers first, then get 2.5" exhaust after the headers. I only went full 3" because I'm running a single exhaust. The resonator won't change hardly any sound in my experience. If it's noise you're looking for, replace the mufflers.
