My first car ever was a 1997 Chrysler Sebring JXI convertible. After owning the car for about 1 year it completely broke down, transmission wouldn't engage at all. It was partially because the car was old and worn out, but I also think it partially because it was a "Chrysler". It was then that I vowed my next car would be from a more respected domestic automaker. Either Ford or GM.

When I went out searching for cars I found 3 cars that really appealed to me. A 1999 Camaro Z28 with 80,000 miles on it for $6,900, a 2003 Ford Mustang V6 with 72,000 miles on it for $9,000, and the last car I found was a 2003 Monte Carlo SS with 54,500 miles on it for $10,000. The Monte Carlo was in the best condition of all the cars, had the lowest mileage, was by far the best looking, and had the best price. I bought the Monte Carlo within 50 minutes. Never regretted buying that car for a second.

Then just 1 1/2 years later my dear Evelyn, (Monte) was in a fatal wreck from a deranged driver who blew a red light, totaled his G6 and my Monte. With the money from the insurance company I purchased another quality GM vehicle, a 2001 Camaro Z28. I still miss my Monte, but I love the Camaro's power.

I remember when I still had my Monte I got to race a T-Bird S/C once. They were fairly quick cars, considering the T-bird was probably a '93 or '94.

Good call Quartermain s/c ss! My old bird was a 94 sc had the 3.8 supercharged in it. For a big car(and only performance upgrade was a pulley), it moved pretty good. haha

This is my Monte Carlo story.

My sixteenth birthday was in four days. And for the past year, I was trying my hardest to convince my parents to buy me a car. I really wanted a muscle car. I knew how much of a money pit they can be, but I didn't care. A '71 Chevelle SS was for sale near our house for what I thought was a reasonable price ($7500 for an original car with about 90K miles). But I had no luck.

I then found red '88 Trans Am GTA Notchback for sale for $3800 on craigslist. It was one of only 74 made that year. I thought for sure this would be a winner. I showed my mom, and all she said was that she couldn't afford to buy me a $3800 dollar car right now. Total disappointment had fully set in.

So with my birthday just a couple days away, I had pretty much given up hope of getting a car when I turned 16. Now here's where it gets interesting. Two days before my birthday, my 10 year old neighbor knocks on my door. He tells me that there is a red Monte Carlo hidden in the forest behind our house with tinted windows and no license plates. He also tells me that there was a red car used in a drive by shooting earlier that day and that they had already called the police. So, concerned, I went and told my parents. They acted all surprised and shocked. When we got out to the car, my parents just started walking up to it. I stayed back, not knowing what to expect. They said it was fine, but I didn't think so. I said we should stay back and call the police. They reassured me that it was fine. When I still didn't move, they said, in unison, "Happy Birthday!" And so I got my first car, a torch red 2001 Monte Carlo SS two days before my 16th birthday.

why i baught my monte is the style and i was looking for some thing i didnt have to shift gears all the time and on top of that if i drove my silverado or the mustang it would have killed me in gas. but the reson why i got it is to get better credit threw some personal reasons and also gave me a chance to have some thing with a real back seat. to have a couple of kids in the back while being pepy. i am glad i owen it and love how it drives love the looks but the down side i owe money on it till 2011 or 12 i think i have to look at the papers. but i love it because how much room i have in it for strollers to really big bags.

I got one mainly because of its racing heritage. Now, mine isn't as fast as some of the other MCs on here, (3.4L V6) and it's up to 3K RPM going up a hill, but it has the sexy looks (6th Gen anyway) and feel of a car that spent it's life at the race track.

I bought all 3 of mine because they looked great, ran great and they were cheap. What other reasons do you need?
