6th Gen ('00-'05): What speed will my Monte govern out at?
Sparing the pointless lecture on the dangers of 3-digit speeds, maybe you should just stick to the old Chevelle. These cars are more of a "cruiser" car, they aren't really made to go fast. 3800s are modifiable but not without a decent sum of money that you'd be better off spending on something that is better suited to those speeds if you're going to do it. Plus tires, rear wheel drive, better transmissions...
That's weird then cuz when I'm in third goin 70, it sounds as if my motor is being over worked. And as soon as I throw it in D, I feel it shift up and run a lot smoother. 1st I notice f goes to about 25 before I have to put it in 2nd. but if my rpms are too high in going from 1st to 2nd, my exhaust kind of makes a small backfiring noise
^^ I feel the same way
these cars are not suppose to b manual shifted. Keep in 2nd for a good burnout and then click and stay in 3rd for WOT racing. You don't wanna go WOT hard pulls in 4th it will fail...

No I hardly ever manually shift, but all this discussion about it made me try it out. I've tried racing in 3rd and in 4th and I must say I think I get better results in 4th? I'm going out tonight with a few of the guys so I'll test it out
You do understand what 4th does right? It is just another gear. If you have your car floored there is absolutely no difference between having it in 3 or in Drive until you are doing well over 100 mph and you are at the top of 3rd needing to go into 4th, what is considered an overdrive gear. Do not manual shift your car until you at least have any general idea of what you are doing. Put it in D and do some reading before you try to push a nearly stock v6 to limits that aren't even impressive. /rant
