Default torque converter failure

My 95 z34 keeps kicking out of overdrive and running 3000 rpm at 60mph... I have been told its like a torque converter relay or something.. does that sound right or is there another problem that is common?

Ps how do you do any fix suggested? Imcluding the tc relay.. I'm a new backyard mechanic

Welcome to the MCF. The only advice I can offer is this. Pick up a copy of the factory service manuals. All of your answers should be there. If you know anybody that rebuilds transmissions would be a good source of info.
