Default Thinking about buying an '86 Monte LS, but...

The guy selling the car says that the car has a 2001 Chevy Tahoe engine. Originally he said that the engine was a 350ci, which the Tahoe didn't offer in 2001. When I told him that the only engines available for a Tahoe in 2001were the 4.8L and the 5.3L, he didn't confirm or deny that fact, but still said the engine was from a 2001 Tahoe either way. Is that type of swap even possible? He's only selling the car for $1,800, which is also negotiable. It seems like, if it's even possible, that the amount of money involved in a conversion like that would well exceed $1,800 bucks. Is this guy full of it? I haven't seen the car yet, but I would like to know if dropping a newer, fuel injected truck engine is even possible in a G-body?

Sure it's possible. But some extreme work involved with the EFI and ignition, my guess. Should be all bolt in, tho. Ask him what he is using for the PCM, and get some pics and post them so we can help you. If it is, then you got a powerful car with LOTS of upgrade options. Powerful engine stock. Probably the 5.3. Also, what is the transmission in it? I'm guessing it's the mating tranny that came from the Tahoe, probably a 4L65E or a 4L80E.
GET MORE INFO! You could be looking at a car full of problems.

i am notto familier with the newer motor's that are in the new chevy's but from what i know that motor would be a vortec motor i think and if so you can get intakes to use a carb and the older trans will bolt up to them as well
or with a little more work you can get a aftermarkt ecu like a megasquart and run the efi
the best bet is to ask for pics of the engin bay to see or if its not a far drive go see personaly then that way you know exactly what's what's
