Default Thinking of buying a Monte Carlo....

Ok, well I am interested in buying a Monte Carlo SS. However, I joined this forum ot try and gather some information to find out if they are problem cars, or reliable. I am concerned about one part specifically, the transmission. I keep reading about how people have problems with their transmission, and with hard shifts. This is what really concerns me. I am going to buy used between 2000-05. If you can please tell me your honest opinion about buying one, please post. Thanks

Default RE: Thinking of buying a Monte Carlo....

I've just purchased a new 2006 Monte Carlo SS - I traded in my '99 Monte Carlo. It had super low miles (less than 57k) and I did have a problem (and it sounds like a common problem) with the intake manifold gasket. I did have it replaced along with a couple of other small items (to the tune of $750). Can't say if I really had any other concerns. I do love my new Monte Carlo (the v-8 is a blast). My only complaint has to do with the interior layout. Some of the controls are darn inconvenient....the shifter is in the way of the temp controls....nothing really major. Oh, and the premium sound system is kinda crummy.

Hope things work out for you and you get a sweet deal...best of luck!
