Dude, I was at a local Pep Boys, not the one I Normally go to, getting a tire replaced. It go eaten by an open swear cap. While I was waiting in the waiting area, a Lady backed her car out of one of the bays. And hit my BMW. I had just put custom headlights on her and she had no major dents, before the lady that is. Well the police came and told me it was not worth writing a report. It would be better if we took care of it our selves. So I took her info, got a couple of estimates called her and found out that the number was disconnected. And she was never home.
Not only did the damage not get repaired but I lost $500 to the body shop that was going to do the work.
So i got a hardy, "Bend over, do not apply vassoline, do not Smile!!!!!"

Point is, the kid knows his Insurance is going to go up, if they don't drop him for fleeing the seen. In that situation I would have told you anything to get you off my porch. Then when my insurance Co called me about it, I would flat out deny it!!!!!
Plus, there is a limit to how long you have after an accident to report it. So do your self a favor and get a police report. CYA and let him worry about his own!

Now it makes sense Nightmagic, I did not catch that you actually new the guy. I can understand a little more not going for the police report, still, it woulda been nice for him to actually make things right before you had to find him.

thanks for all the concern everyone! but to ease your minds, he cant deny anything because he admitted it in front of a constable and his friend that was in the car with him when he left told their constable friend (the one that is dating my aunt) that he hit it. so i have witnesses that he said he did it. i found all of his info on facebook before i even found him in person. the only thing i was lacking was his licence plate number. He JUST got that car 2 weeks ago too. the adjuster is coming out thursday morning. even if he would have denied it i would have just went to my insurance company, filed with them and they would have went after him. and when it comes to the police, it would be me going to the barracks filling out paper work handing it over getting a copy and thats that.they wouldnt have spoken with me to hear my side of the story, and beings that the car is driveable they wouldnt even bother to look at it. We didnt even see the damage till the next morning since it was dark out when we left that night. im stopping at a body shop wednesday afternoon after work to get an estimate so the insurance adjuster cant say its worth less....i may even hop over to one today if i have time as well.

Default 1996 Monte Carlo

I was in the post office parking lot leaving and a Chevrolet SUV backed out not seeing me leaving/driving on his right and approaching his parked spot. Police report was done, my insurance required it. The driver did not have insurance. My car needed a new passenger door and right front fender in addition to the paint work. My insurance company paid to fix my car and my insurance company made the SUV driver pay them for the repair. He would of lost his license if he did not pay them.

my insurance company would have done the same. they would have paid me for the repairs minus my deductible and would have went after the kid, or the kids insurance company. there was no way out of it for him so it was better he gave in. i already got paid by his insurance so im all good. it sucks dealing with this crap but it is what it is.....

That's a real bummer, dude. Damn kids and their cell phones these days..Last winter, I parallel parked my Tacoma pickup out on the street and went shopping. Didn't know until 2 days later when I drove it at night and my headlight on the driver's side was pointing way down at the ground. Found out that someone had backed into me, crunched it in and drove off. It wasn't enough damage to notice right away, but I sure notice when the lights are on. Still need to get it fixed.

People are jerks, what ever happened to honesty in this country is beyond me. People are scared to admit their mistakes and or apologize for them.
