i changed my wires and spark plugs, on my 98 z34 and i had to disconnect the o2 sensor which was in the way of the #6 spark plug, i started up the car and the light comes on, so i see that i forgot to hook it back up and when i do the sensor light still stays on.. Is there anything i can do to make it go away? it was never on before, will it hurt my gas mileage or anything making the computer program differently? thanks

 

I personally would drive, this morning once AutoZone opens up, and have them reset the code for you....

Usually the computer will correct itself once it realizes that there is now a connection with the O2 Sensor, but to be safe, take it and have it reset.

 

exactly what he said, take it to autozone and have them reset the code once you have reconected the o2 sensor, if everything is good, the light will stay off

 

Isn't there a specified number of times you need to start the engine (some cars it's 5 times) before the computer re-sets itself?

After you hit this number and the computer re-sets itself the light will go out.


There's also the "Unhook the battery for 1/2 hour then re-connect" to re-set the computer.

 

Yes, I have heard that as well, but unfortunately, I really have no idea what the number of restarts required is...
